I don't think we should leave the makers out of this, Leonard. Kirk might think he is invincible but he's still a novice - someone needs to look out for him in case any of the betters try to interfere or get on his case too hard. If we leave Edgin and Yendar out of this then do we end up doing that?
Obviously neither of them should be involved in the betting itself for fairness, I'm good with the idea otherwise. I just think we also need to look out for the kid.
P.S. Also, not really an objection but it is very funny for the likes of us to be calling Kirk a “flighty whore”. It's like throwing stones at a fancy glass house while living out of a cardboard shack.
Then we better stay on Kirk like we’re apprentices inspired by Xenk Yendar. If someone so much as shakes Kirk down too hard Gold Court style the man himself might kill me and you, you know?
And Edgin Darvis’s night terror form is probably difficult to fight, too.
[It might be a little callous to worry more about the consequences to himself if Kirk gets hurt, but knowing how fragile novices are and how uncertain their chances of graduation- it has made Elias try to keep a distance from them until they've made it to their Becoming.
But maybe it helps, having a more detached perspective. He's aware that what Kirk wants may not be the best for him.]
Do you think he's into being talked down to? Maybe that's it?
Yeah, if he draws the wrong crowd cause of this it'll be our heads. He can hold his own alright, but he's still a scrawny little human. I'll keep an eye out, if Yendar doesn't already have a thrall chasing him around the castle.
Plus people love drama, and nobody's gonna wanna mess with a kid who's in Yendar's sights. Knowing Edgin, I'm willing to bet the claws would come out easy over this kid. Which is wild, but hopefully it'll all blow over and it'll turn out to be another highlight in the next Whisperfangs.
[ Edgin being protective and scary is pretty hot. But now's not the time, when it could be their heads on the chopping block. ]
Founders, I wouldn't be surprised. Kid has one hell of an ego. Maybe it's the challenge of being courted by some guy who doesn't take shit from anybody. Real Red Court shit—like, if he can tame Yendar, everybody else'll know he's tough? I ain't got a clue.

[ This may be the bluntest declaration he's ever made about a novice. ]
But I couldn't have said it better myself, honestly. His words, not mine. If he wants me to call him a floozy, I'll happily oblige.
[ Bones you said you'd cover for him but you're OK to insult him publicly?? ]
